Why visible abs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be
Why are visible abs seen at the ultimate fitness goal?
Why do so many people think they will finally be happy once they get a six pack?
Because you won’t. It’s very likely that your body image won’t improve.
Just because you don’t have visible abs DOES NOT mean you don’t have a rock solid core.
Six pack is not synonymous with strong core.
- Did you know you can hold a plank for five minutes without needing a six pack?
-Did you know that having visible abs depends on having a low body fat percentage which is completely up to your genetics? Sure fruits and veggies are delicious but spoonfuls of peanut-butter fill the cracks of the heart.
-Did you know a six pack isn’t necessary to be a successful athlete?
-Did you know that your diet becomes super limited to get visible abs and even MORE limited when you finally achieve visible abs because you don’t want to lose them? I don’t know about you but I can have strong abs and still eat the foods I love most. Ice cream by the pint? Hell yes.
-Did you know that your abs disappear by the HOUR? You go to the bathroom and look in the mirror and you feel disheartened and sad because your stomach doesn’t look as lean as it was in the morning… So you skip going out to eat with your family because greasy fatty food scares you.
Sure a visible 6-pack looks cool, but tummies without them look just as cool. Don’t sacrifice so much for something that means so little. Don’t get out of bed because you forgot to do core work today so you make yourself crank out some crunches at 11pm. They’re so overrated and there is so much more to focus on in life. They are not the be all end all and cost way more than they’re worth.
This isn’t a post to say ditch all core exercises. They’re important for proper & efficient form and injury prevention.
So be strong but more importantly be happy.
